SMART-MSFC is the system that integrates methodologies, research and technology for the execution of the MSFC (Multiple Sclerosis Functional Composite) protocol.

 Multiple sclerosis (MS) is a demyelinating neurodegenerative disease that affects the central nervous system causing lesions that can evolve from an initial inflammatory phase to a chronic phase making the disease itself disabling. Affected people show various symptoms, among which the most common are tiredness, difficulty walking, bladder and bowel dysfunction, upper limb functional impairment, cognitive disorders, speech and hearing disorders and others, which they can present in an unpredictable way and with a certain severity, different from person to person. Therefore, quantifying the activity and progression of the clinical disease of MS is the challenge that Euronet has as its objective.

  • It automates the execution of the tests, allowing the doctor to follow the patient even remotely;
  • Calculate the score for each test and the final score promptly and precisely;
  • It integrates additional analysis parameters useful at the end of the evaluation of the state of the disease;
  • It makes the scores of the single tests, the final score, the data acquired in electronic format available to the doctor to allow subsequent processing for the purpose of diagnosis, thus allowing to perform analysis of historical data, perform statistics, obtain graphs useful for evaluation purposes on the state of the disease, also investigating any correlations between the recorded parameters.

The system is equipped with a 4G and wireless modem to transmit data to the operations centre, however SMART MSFC can also be used in stand-alone mode, for the execution of the test it is essential to configure the identification mode, with:

Thanks to the user friendly interface, the operator or the patient can choose the language in which to carry out the test.

To use our technology, a kit will be released containing the devices to be able to perform the individual protocol tests, equipped with sensors for detecting the parameters of interest and the control technology and electronics for their operation.

The tests to follow are:

  • The T25-FW Leg Mobility Test requires a 25-foot course, with the start and finish marked. When the patient crosses the beginning of the path, the time count is activated, which is stopped when he reaches the end of the path. Furthermore, it is also useful to be able to acquire data relating to the patient’s walking performance for a qualitative and quantitative analysis that can allow us to trace any disturbances or anomalies that arise, such as: staggering, falling, stopping. While these data are not helpful in scoring the MSFC protocol, they do, however, allow for further evaluation and diagnostic considerations of disease progression.
  • The 9-HPT test relating to the patient’s manual dexterity requires a specific apparatus for its execution consisting of a container for the pegs and a perforated base in which the pegs must be inserted. The system requires a trigger to signal the start and end of the test (to coincide with the withdrawal of the first peg from the container and the subsequent placing of the last peg in the same container).
  • The PASAT-3 test requires a loudspeaker to listen to the numbers with which to perform calculations and a microphone to communicate the answer. Furthermore, it is necessary to define the modality with which to validate the correctness of the answer provided.
